From the Editor's Desk
Welcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.
Summer is coming to an end. Here in the USA, the kids
are back in school, the sun is waking up a little later
and business is starting to pick up. In the last month
we have seen an increase in enquiries for our
technologies, ranging from RFID to bar code (direct part
marking) and magnetic stripe.
The season is just starting to pick up for standards
work as well (see below). I expect to see some
significant work and changes coming forward in the next
year to eighteen months. At last we will have something
to answer the cry of "we need security". If you are one
of those companies that needs security elated to RFID,
then hope is at hand. Don't get swept up by the
companies that are currently offering RFID security
unless you have a future plan for them to adopt the new
ISO security standard that is being worked on.

Technology News Briefs
RFID Standards
As mentioned above, the work on RFID standards is starting to pick
up again. As I write this I am in Toulouse France for a week of
standards work. In the recent months we have seen new work items for
18047-2, 24730-2, and revisions to 18000 parts 6 and 7.
This week in Toulouse we will see progress in a variety of areas
related to RFID. The biggest progress could well be in the new area
of security with RFID. Next month we will summarize the work done.
If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of
RFID standardization, then email
