From the Editor's Desk
Welcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.
Happy New Year! The holiday period is always a slow
time, and the news below reflects this, but we are
already seeing an increase in news traffic for the New
Year. I am starting to believe that 2011 will really be
the year for RFID. The market is full of comments about
the upswing we saw in the last quarter of 2010, and it
looks like continuing. Macy’s announced involvement with
item level tagging to complement the tagging that
Wal-Mart is already doing means that retailers are
starting to demand tags and readers in volume.
But the main focus still seems to be outside of retail
with many projects starting to gain a significant
momentum. 2011 will be an interesting year.

RFID Standards
Standards work over the holidays has naturally been slow, with no
major meetings taking place. As we enter January, the first of
several meetings starts this week.
If standards are interesting to you, then I invite you to visit a
new web site that I am starting to build –
UnderstandingRFIDstandards.com. This web site already has articles
on all of the ISO/IEC 18000 series and will have updates posted to
it as the standards progress. You can sign up for occasional emails
about items specific to the topic. Comments are welcome on the site.
If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of
RFID standardization, then email
