From the Editor's Desk

Steve HallidayWelcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.

Is your company keeping up with the rapid changes in international standards that relate to RFID? Are you aware of how the Internet of Things will affect your business? High Tech Aid can provide detailed, customized reporting, monitoring and meeting attendance for your company needs. Email steve@hightechaid.com  for more information.

As promised last month, I have some important news for you if you are interested in the Internet of Things. First – a new magazine. IoT Essentials is a new bi-monthly magazine that will be delivered electronically. The first issue is available free and you can go to http://www.iotessentials.com/ to get your copy. The magazine is available in several electronic formats (including ebook and pdf) as well as on online version. If you sign up now for a subscription there is a significant discount. The second issue is due out in early July, so make sure you get signed up now.

Second, the AIM Expo is beginning to solidify its agenda for the week. If you are an AIM member then you should plan on attending the IoT committee meeting on Sunday Sept 25, 2011. The IoT conference sessions will be on Monday Sept 26, 2011. There are conference sessions and exhibit hall hours Monday through Wednesday and Pack Expo will be held at the same time so you can get to visit two great shows that week. For more details of the AIM Expo, go to http://www.aim-expo.com/.

If you are interested in RFID and Internet of Things news you can follow my tweets at @RFIDMan.

Are you interested in sponsoring the newsletter? We are looking for a new sponsor. Drop me a note to editor@hightechaid.com and let me know.

If you have colleagues who do not get their own copy of this newsletter, then tell them to go to  http://www.hightechaid.com/newsletter/newsletter.htm where they can sign up for their own copy.

E-mail me at editor@hightechaid.com and tell us what you think. Don't forget to send this issue to your friends so that they can sign up for their own issue of the free newsletter at http://www.hightechaid.com. If you have news to share or info you need, let me know at news@hightechaid.com.

RFID Standards

Last week I attended the Plenary meeting of ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 31 and a meeting of WG 5 (Real Time Location Systems). Both meetings were of great interest to companies involved in the AIDC arena. The WG 5 meeting included discussions on the proposed new standards for Ultra Wide Band RTLS along with status updates for the other work items.

The Plenary is the one chance every year for the various work groups and liaisons in SC 31 to get together and report on their work. With 6 active work groups and many organizations in liaison to the Sub Committee, there is a lot to learn.

To keep up to date on the work in the RFID standards world visit http://www.understandRFIDstandards.com. If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of RFID standardization, then email steve@hightechaid.com.
