From the Editor's Desk

Steve HallidayWelcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.

Is your company keeping up with the rapid changes in international standards that relate to RFID? Are you aware of how the Internet of Things will affect your business? High Tech Aid can provide detailed, customized reporting, monitoring and meeting attendance for your company needs. Email steve@hightechaid.com  for more information.

I just got back from some European Union sponsored meetings in Brazil where we were talking about the Internet of Things. The big issue in front of us seems to be all about how the IoT is going to be governed. There are many groups talking about the projects they are involved with, but there is almost nobody talking about how we are going to tie all these projects together and make it all work as one.

Countries like China and Korea, as well Europe are plowing big money into the IoT – at a governmental level. Here in the USA, we seem to be letting the individual companies do their own thing and there is no means of unification.

Are you involved? Here in the USA, the organization that is taking a look at the IoT is AIM. To find out more and how you can be a member of the IoT committee and help address some of these issues, call AIM. We are meeting on September 25, 2011 in Las Vegas as part of the AIM Expo. Visit http://www.aim-expo.com/ to learn more about the Expo, and call Linda (+1 724-742-4470) at the AIM office to learn more about the IoT committee and how to join in.

Don't forget that the AIM Expo is rapidly approaching. Come join the only AIDC Event that covers the full AIDC industry. There will conference sessions as well as a trade show. I will be running the Internet of Things conference on Monday September 26, 2011. The event is being held in Las Vegas and is being held in association with Pack Expo. For more details and sign up information visit: http://www.aim-expo.com.

If you are interested in RFID things you can follow my tweets at @RFIDMan.

RFID Standards

No meetings since the last newsletter, but the standards work continues. The ISO/IEC 18000 series are all in ballot again. Part 6 is in FDIS ballot and the rest (parts 61, 62, 63 and 64) are all in DIS ballot. This means that the new standards should be published no later than mid-2012. Next will be the modifications to 18000-63 to include the ability to implement security with full encryption capability.

To keep up to date on the work in the RFID standards world visit http://www.understandRFIDstandards.com. If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of RFID standardization, then email steve@hightechaid.com.
