From the Editor's Desk

Steve HallidayWelcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.

Two weeks ago I attended the RFID Live conference in Orlando FL. The annual show was held in Disney’s Swan and Dolphin resort this year. While a hotel conference center feels like a much better place to be than the expanses of the Orlando convention Center, the high cost of the hotel put a damper on the event for some people.

On the positive side, the show floor, while it did not feel any bigger than last year, certainly had a different flavor than previous years. I didn’t see anything that jumped out at me as very new and must have, but the overall feel was one of professionalism that we have not seen in other years. RFID seems to have reached a point where the attendees want to see real products and how they can be used to best benefit. The vendors certainly came through, and the questions I had were answered with some great solutions.

If you are interested in RFID things you can follow my tweets at @RFIDMan.

RRFID Standards

The RFID standards work may seem slow to the outside world, but it does keep moving forward. This year we have already seen three new standards published:

ISO/IEC 29167-1:2012 - Information technology -- Automatic identification and data capture techniques -- Part 1: Air interface for security services and file management for RFID architecture

ISO/IEC 29175:2012 - Information technology -- Mobile item identification and management -- User data for Mobile AIDC services

ISO/IEC 29179:2012 - Information technology -- Mobile item identification and management -- Mobile AIDC application programming interface

Several other standards have been sent to ISO for publication and I expect to see them being released in the next few months.

If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of RFID standardization, then email steve@hightechaid.com. For a look at RFID standards work, you can visit http://www.UnderstandRFIDstandards.com.
