From the Editor's Desk

Steve HallidayWelcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.

Welcome to 2012. The economy seems to have turned the corner and so let's all wish for a happy and prosperous new year.

This year just doesn't seem to be easing up. Here we are with March starting this week, and I am back on schedule with the newsletter.

We’ve been busy with other work too. We have just delivered software to a company who intends to be able to provide the ability to detect infection in an implant (knee, hip etc.) without having to open up the body again. By placing sensors on the joint, we can not only detect the infection but provide a means of creating a registry for implants – something the USA does not have.

We are also working in the oil and gas industry and the document tracking world. Both areas bring their own challenges for AIDC and we have designed solutions to solve both problems. With other new projects starting to appear, it looks like 2012 will be an interesting and challenging time.

If you are interested in RFID things you can follow my tweets at @RFIDMan.

Are you interested in sponsoring the newsletter? We are looking for a new sponsor. Drop me a note to editor@hightechaid.com and let me know.

E-mail me at editor@hightechaid.com and tell us what you think. Don't forget to send this issue to your friends so that they can sign up for their own issue of the free newsletter at http://www.hightechaid.com. If you have news to share or info you need, let me know at news@hightechaid.com.

Technology News Briefs

RRFID Standards

The standards world continues to move forward, but interestingly we continue to see a drop in participation in the work. Why is this? Are companies prepared to take whatever happens in the standardization world without comment? There are plenty of things being proposed as new work, yet we are not seeing the companies who should be involved step up to participate.

Has the financial situation really caused companies to step to one side and not look for that competitive advantage? Are they just prepared to be one of the crowd?

There are solutions that allow a company to be involved without spending lots of money. Contact me if you are interested to learn how to get involved.

If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of RFID standardization, then email steve@hightechaid.com. For a look at RFID standards work, you can visit http://www.UnderstandRFIDstandards.com.
