From the Editor's Desk

Steve HallidayWelcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.

Another month goes by and I am writing this issue from a hotel near Detroit MI where tomorrow sees the start of the MH10.8 meetings. The MH10.8 subgroup is responsible for "Coding & Labeling of Unit-Loads". This means bar codes for a lot of the work, but there is an increasing amount of RFID in there. If you want to see what standards this group produces, you can see a brief summary at http://www.understandrfidstandards.com/246/rfid-standards-progress/

Next month I will be attending the Internet of Things week meetings in Europe. This set of meetings will be a great chance to catch up on the progress in the IOT and I will try to provide a summary of the events here and on my Twitter feed (@RFIDMan). You can see more about the IoT Week at http://www.iot-week.eu/.

Are you interested in sponsoring the newsletter? We are looking for a new sponsor. Drop me a note to editor@hightechaid.com and let me know.

RFID Standards

The month of June sees the SC 31 Plenary and a chance to catch up on all of the work being done in the AIDC standards world. This year the Plenary will be hosted in Pittsburgh PA USA (my home town) and the preparations for the event are almost complete. With about 80 delegates from around the world attending for a week of standards meetings it promises to be a very busy week.

We continue to see progress in the AIDC standards world. This month there are 5 year review ballots on several of the standards in the bar code arena. We also have sent all of the parts of the new ISO/IEC 18000-6x series to final ballot or publication. This means that the new 18000-6x standards which will replace the old 18000-6 standard will soon be available. Part 63 will be the new standard that was called 18000-6 type C and will be equivalent to the EPCglobal Gen 2 UHF standard.

Other notable issues are the approval of several new parts to the ISO/IEC 29167 standard. Parts 10 and on of this standard will detail various Crypto Suites that can be used in conjunction with 18000-63 to provide a means to encrypt data on a UHF tag.

If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of RFID standardization, then email steve@hightechaid.com. For a look at RFID standards work, you can visit http://www.UnderstandRFIDstandards.com.
