From the Editor's Desk

Steve HallidayWelcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.

With this month’s issue, we hit August, the middle of the summer and for many of you (and me) the time we take a vacation. But that doesn’t mean that the news stops and it seems that this month is no different than normal. Plenty to read and learn this month.

The Internet of Things is certainly getting a lot of press coverage at the moment and not just from the technical journals. The strange thing is that no one seems to be able to agree what the definition for the IoT is. One of the standards groups that I am working with has found over 20 definitions and I am not sure any of them are complete (or even correct in some cases). What do you think the definition is?

If you or your company needs consulting help in the world of AIDC, then drop me a note and let's chat. High Tech Aid provides consulting on a variety of areas associated with AIDC.

Follow my Twitter feed (@RFIDMan) for more current RFID, IOT and AIDC news and information.

Are you interested in sponsoring the newsletter? We are looking for a new sponsor. Drop me a note to editor@hightechaid.com and let me know.

E-mail me at editor@hightechaid.com and tell us what you think. Don't forget to send this issue to your friends so that they can sign up for their own issue of the free newsletter at http://www.hightechaid.com. If you have news to share or info you need, let me know at editor@hightechaid.com.

RFID Standards

Following the Plenary in June, the work of SC 31 has been mostly in the background. There are 15 ballots open at this time for various documents in the SC 31 stable including two New Work Item proposals.

If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of RFID standardization, then email steve@hightechaid.com. For a look at RFID standards work, you can visit http://www.UnderstandRFIDstandards.com.
