From the Editor's Desk

Steve HallidayWelcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.

As we get further in to 2013, we are seeing a change from last year and at last there seems to be an interest in companies investing in technology again. Here at High Tech Aid, the long dark tunnel is at last starting to show signs of a light at the end. Of course we all hope it is not that proverbial train, but the fact that there seems to be progress is a good thing.

If you or your company needs consulting help in the world of AIDC, then drop me a note and let's chat. High Tech Aid provides consulting on a variety of areas associated with AIDC.

In the early part of 2013, you will see some changes to the newsletter and to the web sites behind it. We are working feverishly to provide you with more information in a prompt and easy read manner. Please invite your companions and colleagues to subscribe to the newsletter. Visit http://www.hightechaid.com and sign in below the big red arrow.

Follow my Twitter feed (@RFIDMan) for more current RFID, IOT and AIDC news and information.

Are you interested in sponsoring the newsletter? We are looking for a new sponsor. Drop me a note to editor@hightechaid.com and let me know.

E-mail me at editor@hightechaid.com and tell us what you think. Don't forget to send this issue to your friends so that they can sign up for their own issue of the free newsletter at http://www.hightechaid.com. If you have news to share or info you need, let me know at news@hightechaid.com.

RFID Standards

Work continues with a new work item to add an active RFID air interface to ISO/IEC 18000-4 as Mode 3 added to the work plan. We are also at the DIS ballot stage for ISO/IEC 18000-7.

Now that all of the ISO/IEC 18000-6x series if UHF air interface standards are published, the workgroup is looking at a revision to 18000-63 to incorporate all of the changes created by GS1 EPCglobal on the new Gen2 V2 specification. The work in GS1 is now complete and as soon as they have finished their IP review process, the document will be made available to ISO to add into 18000-63.

Along with this work, WG 7 in SC 31 is moving ahead to create the crypto suites to allow secure use of RFID tags. Several of the parts of 29167 are now in CD ballot and hopefully we are starting to see the progress needed in this area.

If you are interested in any of the above, drop me a note.

If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of RFID standardization, then email steve@hightechaid.com. For a look at RFID standards work, you can visit http://www.UnderstandRFIDstandards.com.
