From the Editor's Desk

Steve HallidayWelcome to the latest issue of the High Tech AIDCourier.

April has been a heavy travel month for me and so by the time you read this, I will be on my third week out of the office – this time at our industry's biggest dedicated show – RFID Journal Live. This year, I will have a busy time as I am the moderator for the Internet of Things post conference session, and I will be working on the Smartrac booth showing a new product.

Stop by and say "Hi" if you are at the show, I look forward to seeing you there.

If you or your company needs consulting help in the world of AIDC, then drop me a note and let's chat. High Tech Aid provides consulting on a variety of areas associated with AIDC.

Follow my Twitter feed (@RFIDMan) for more current RFID, IOT and AIDC news and information.

Are you interested in sponsoring the newsletter? We are looking for a new sponsor. Drop me a note to editor@hightechaid.com and let me know.

E-mail me at editor@hightechaid.com and tell us what you think. Don't forget to send this issue to your friends so that they can sign up for their own issue of the free newsletter at http://www.hightechaid.com. If you have news to share or info you need, let me know at news@hightechaid.com.

RFID Standards

Last week I attended the meetings of SC 31/WG 7, WG 4/SG 1, and WG 4/SG 3 in Colorado Springs CO, USA. The meetings were well attended with 16 countries represented.

The first two days were WG 7 where we held Comment Resolution Meetings for parts 1, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, 18 and 19 of ISO/IEC 29167. This standard defines the Crypto Suits that will be used by the various air interfaces in ISO/IEC 18000. Parts 1 and 11 were sent on to DIS ballot, while parts 10, 12, 15, and 16 were returned for a second CD ballot and parts 18 and 19 were both approved as new work items. During the WG 7 meeting we reviewed the working drat of part 14 and sent it to CD ballot.

WG 4/SG 1 was spent reviewing work items and preparing for future work. In WG 4/SG 3the committee agreed to a final review of the new Standing Document to replace 18000-1 and reviewed the working draft of 18000-4 revision, agreeing to send this to CD ballot. Following this review, the document will be published. Both SG 1 and SG 3 are waiting for the work of GS1/EPCglobal on the new Gen 2 V2 air interface to be completed and sent to ISO. This will allow the groups to update ISO/IEC 18000-63 and the associated data standards.

If you want more information on ISO standardization or on any issue of RFID standardization, then email ref="mailto:steve@hightechaid.com">steve@hightechaid.com. For a look at RFID standards work, you can visit http://www.UnderstandRFIDstandards.com.
